New Titles in the Webstore for October 18, 2024:
S.H.I.T. "For A Better World" LP (Iron Lung Records)
Toronto’s long-running hardcore titans return with a new seven-track LP that fuses their many strengths into the ultimate slab of S.H.I.T. While S.H.I.T.’s previous 12” leaned into the gnarlier, more chaotic aspects of their sound, For a Better World returns to the infectious bouncy rhythms and earworm riffing that made S.H.I.T.’s 7” EPs classics of modern punk. S.H.I.T. has always been a riff machine, and For a Better World adds “Corporate Funded Killing Technology,” “Imminent Destruction,” and the climactic closer, “Captive (… in the Mutilated Vista)” to their bulging canon of monster hooks. Like Metallica or the Ramones, S.H.I.T. writes the kind of riffs that beg you to pick up a guitar and strum along, but only the most dedicated practitioners will approach the energy of those relentless downstrokes that have lit up so many 21st-century pits. While the riffs are the centerpiece, For a Better World is brocaded with details that add texture, depth, and dynamics, like the bursts of power electronics chaos that occasionally bubble to the surface or the triumphant guitar lead in “Terminal Democracy.” Ryan Tong’s vocals also sound better than ever here, minimizing the delay and distortion effects that swaddled him on previous records in favor of letting his natural venom ring out. Case in point, the UK82-infused “Kill the Fuckers” and its Chaos UK-esque chorus: “Kill the fuckers! Just kill them all!” If the album’s title seems curiously positive, its context as the last line of that song makes perfect sense. We all want a better world, but the only way we’re gonna get there is to kill the fuckers, and this is the perfect soundtrack. -Daniel Lupton

SHIRKS, THE "Talk to Action: Singles and Unreleased 2008-2013" LP (Big Neck Records)
Hailing from Washington, DC, there is obviously a lengthy punk rock history that The Shirks are adding to, and in some respects there is no difference to what the Dischord bands were doing back in the early days i.e. sticking two fingers up to those wanting to tie them down to what's being done now...Such is their disregard for following 'normal' behaviour i.e. in this 'modern age' the band seem to actively eschew the more accepted ways of getting their name out there by deliberately not having much of a presence on the internet. Back to the music though, The Shirks manage to take that early primitive Dischord sound and regress it a few stages, to produce a really scuzzed up punk rock approach that makes bands such as the Teen Idles and S.O.A. sound positively overproduced.

SWANKYS "The Very Best of Hero The Swankys" LP (General Speech Records)
The first ever official vinyl reissue of this 80s Japanese punk masterpiece. This record defined the “Kyushu Punk” sound, and spawned countless fans and imitators in Japan, and across the globe with their fuzzy and noisy style that blended the catchiness and rock’n’roll sensibilities of ‘77 punk bands like Sex Pistols, with the most chaotic raw hardcore punk sounds of the early 80s. The LP comes with an exact replica of the original insert, and faithful center label and jacket artwork. The sound on the original vinyl LP is very dynamic, and difficult to appreciate the full range of frequencies when listening to an mp3 or streaming, in comparison.  With this is mind, General Speech, and Kings World Records chose to have this record mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studio, making it the first ever half-speed audiophile hardcore punk record, preserving the highest range of frequencies heard on the original recordings, and making this a record some will find equally or more enjoyable to the original.

CICADA "Wicked Dream" 7" (Unlawful Assembly Records)
Ever wonder what it feels like to listen to a nightmare? 9 tracks of crazed, unrelenting sonic power. Demented and distorted guitar rhythms screech over guttural vocal pulsations, driven by a haunting barrage of low end mayhem. The first vinyl offering from CICADA exposes the sound of a thousand bad dreams. A sinister yet brilliant manifestation of wicked minds...

BLACK BUTTON "Internal Life" LP (Dynastic Yellow Star Label)
Abject and existentialist, against trends and scene ideology. Angular, devastating, and of a smarter form that seems to have fallen by the wayside for thoughtless and meaningless hardcore. Reminding you that hardcore punk is still art.

ALAMBRADA "Rios de Sangre" LP (Unlawful Assembly Records)
The highly anticipated 12" follow up to the 2021 Muerte Preventiva 7". 12 Tracks of breakneck ultra hardcore MANIA! A brain melting display of raw power performed at inhuman speeds. Uncontrollable chaotic destruction!!!

INNUENDO "Peace & Love" LP (Unlawful Assembly Records)
12" vinyl debut. 10 tracks of straight forward hardcore punk recorded directly to 8-track tape. Expanding on the mid-paced rock n' roll style riffs featured on the 2020 demo tape, PEACE & LOVE continues with this sound but is not strictly limited to it. The band knows what they want to sound like and they succeed with an honest representation of midwestern disgust.

CLASS "A Healthy Alternative" LP (Feel It Records)
"My mates went on holiday to the Isles for this one. Galactic romantic entropy three sheets to the 'Wind. Saxy glimmers, broken sunbeams, oil dancing in a puddle of water in a parking lot somewhere in St. Louis or Birmingham. And just as first-wave yankee punk was decidedly solipsistic, the Poms folded in a more civic bent to explain the zeitgeist of generational disaffection. Is "Scared To Care" about spikey punks whose apartments are littered with Amazon boxes? Is "Biggest Sale of The Year" an indictment of late-stage capitalism? Is "The Milkman" an effective populist who wants you to sink so that he can swim? Is this record more political than those dystopian hardcore records you sold when a nice girl opened your eyes once? Merely conjecture...

GRAZIA "In Poor Taste" 7" (Feel It Records)
“In Poor Taste” is the debut EP from Grazia - written and recorded by Heather Dunlop and Lindsay Corstorphine. Often referential - In Poor Taste pulls inspiration from the high and low brow, but mostly the low. Grazia pays homage to everything from The Fall to cheap lingerie brands in a campy pastiche of 80’s new wave and pop. In Poor Taste is all about having a lot of fun while delving into your worst, core self.

"CUT & PASTE: The American Hardcore Fanzine" Book (Tribal Publishing)
From the early fanzines covering the pioneering bands of our scene to the staples that established the classic feel of the American Hardcore Fanzine and everything in between. Presenting a visual collection of over four hundred fanzines accompanied by distinguished Fanzine creators such as Al Quint - Suburban Voice,  Hud - Flipside. Kent McClard - Heartattack, Tim McMahon - Common Cause, Mike Gitter - XXX, Fred Hammer - It’s Alive, Chris Daily - Smorgasbord, Porcell - Schism, and Brett Beach - Hardware, to name a few. Cut & Paste offers a diverse range, both visually and in terms of the individuals featured, which will give the novice important insight into our scene and, at the same time, give the ones who have been along for the ride for a while a worthy trip down memory lane. The book comes as a hardcover with 336 pages featuring over 400 American HC fanzines and about 40 write-ups by anyone that ever did a Fanzine in America worth hearing of…..

HOMEMADE SPEED "Faster is Better" 7 (Not for the Weak Records)
Fuck Richmond, fuck Virginia Beach, fuck Norfolk, fuck New York, fuck Straight Edge..... THIS IS HOMEMADE SPEED!!!

GUERRA FINAL "Purgatorio" 7" (Desolate Records)
2nd EP from this Texas based powerhouse. Dynamic and powerful punk rock. Guerra Final have crafted their own sound that draws from a diverse world of punk bands. Poison Idea, Deathside, and Totailtar are all strong parts but far from the whole of this sound.

FEROCIOUS X "Krigs Fanatiker" Flexi 7" (Desolate Records)
Released to coincide with their 2 NYC shows on July 12 and 13, 2024. Here are 3 blistering new tracks of crashing mangel punk done as only these Osaka veterans can. Flexi comes packaged in a fold over cover with lyrics and ripping art from Joe B, along with a gaint 18" x 24" poster.

MUTATED VOID "Listen to the Struggle" Tape (Unlawful Assembly Records)
These Halifax miscreants have stepped up the intensity and chaos with each new release and Listen To The Struggle is no exception. 4 tracks (plus a cover) of devastating noisy blasts, recorded lo-fi without losing a shred of energy. Torn vocal chords spew and fuzzed out guitars spit with blistering bass and drum fury rounding out the madness. A delightfully raucous platter.

TOTAL CON "Eleven Songs" Tape (Unlawful Assembly Records)
Total Con explode out of a lost and near perfect hardcore implosion of sounds spanning oceans and eras. 10 originals (and one cover) played entirely by Bobby Cole (Annihilated, Churchgoers, Brainrotter Records, and more) breaking the sound barrier with a striking resemblance to Richmond, VA’s hc pioneers WHITE CROSS while equally painting the legacy of BCT’s amazing international hc cassette comps on to a canvas of breakneck punk perfection. Big sounds meant for tiny speakers made by a discerning lover of all things loud punishing and musically destructive.-Jonah Falco

TOTAL CON "Kill Someone You Hate" Tape (Unlawful Assembly Records)
7 electro shocks of politically charged UK Hardcore. Following up an explosive 11 track demo tape, Total Con return with more straightforward thrash, raw and abrasive but not without wit. A thunderous demonstration wreaking aural havoc on any ears brave enough to listen.

Just in from IRON LUNG RECORDS:

ATOMIC PREY "S/T" LP (Iron Lung Records)
ATOMIC PREY’s debut is a total psychedelic d-beat smasher that amplifies the overstimulation, disorientation and emotional extremity of modern life - a debilitating HELL. Fourteen feedback soaked minutes of inspired, hard-hitting noisepunk tackling years of chronic illness, death, demons, poverty, PTSD and inherited ancestral anxiety. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but out of that darkness comes a release that ignites crazed inner energy and anarcho aggression by a band committed to each other and committed to pushing beyond convention. Just the way we like it. 500 copies on etched b-side black 150gr vinyl housed in a full color 24pt jacket with lyric insert included. Recorded by Evan Mersky. Mastered by Will Killingsworth. Art by A.P. Fielder with layout by Atomic Prey.

IGNORANCE "S/T" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
The world feels no better since last we met Ignorance and their self titled 2023 EP. Countless lives have been destroyed in futile wars still raging, collective society continues to be apathetically unjust and there does not seem to be any hope of stopping humanity’s downward trajectory toward oblivion. However, with bursts of creative noise, there are ways to combat our seemingly doomed future and Ignorance has done just that with this six song EP. “Nothing Changed” is a raw, primitive Helsinki hardcore punk challenge to the anger, frustration and disappointment in the world at hand that draws from both classic and contemporary influences like Kriegshög’s militaristic precision, the noisy mania of Lebenden Toten, Disorder’s unhinged pogo and the crushing d-beat power of Physique. You’d be foolish to ignore this. 500 copies on black 70gr vinyl housed in a 12pt reverse board custom die cut glue pocket sleeve with insert included. Recorded by Gaizu. Mastered by Ville Valavuo. Layout by Cpt. Wild.

PAPRIKA "Let's Kill Punk" LP (Iron Lung Records)
After the immense “Let’s Kill Punk” LP that came out a mere seven months ago, PAPRIKA wastes no time in coming back with six new distorted hardcore pounders. This time around they explore the anti-establishment with its eyes fixed on big corporates, technocracy with all of its ills and the modern society we live in. No need to go on about this shit though, get this record and sweat your ass off to it, it may be the only thing that saves you. 500 copies on black 70gr vinyl housed in a 12pt reverse board glue pocket sleeve with insert included. Recorded by Rob Lovell. Mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth.

DIRECT THREAT "Endless Siege" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
The pack is back with six scorching new Oi! infused American hardcore tracks that will boil you over and leave everything in your path a smoldering wastepile. Denver has never been known as a mild place and “Endless Siege” reflects DIRECT THREAT’s harsh environment to a tee, tackling subjects ranging from a monotonous reality sparking violence to hopeless futures to threats and paranoia. To say life is uneasy is putting it mildly and mild is something DT just doesn’t fuck with. Our favorite lyric line on the record sums it all up nicely: “We are the hammer and they are the nail.” If you let these sounds fuel your fight, you cannot lose.

BRAIN TOURNIQUET / DELIRIANT NERVE Split 7" (Iron Lung Records)
The next wave of devastating harDCore is upon us! Brain Tourniquet and Deliriant Nerve, both following up LPs on Iron Lung and Malokul respectively, have been a part of representing the Washington DC fast music scene for many years now. A pact was made between the two groups to challenge themselves by stripping everything down to its most primal form and delivering a concise and uncompromising split 7”. They’ve effectively channeled the groundbreaking fast splits of their grinding forefathers (Napalm Death / SOB, Crossed Out / Man Is The Bastard, Neanderthal / Rorschach) with 16 tracks dealing with the suffering, loneliness, and misery that encompasses daily life in the 21st century. People should listen to it if they prefer their blast beat music done The Old Way. No frills. Hardcore, rugged, and raw.

HEAVEN "4-Track EP" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
Fuck! The new Heaven EP is a pummeling hardcore rager that has them spreading roots in slightly crustier soil this time out. With a slight shuffle in personnel and whole lotta time spent in the sweaty hell of Texas rehearsal bunkers, the band emerges with a grimy yet succinct spotlight on their distaste for the lives they’ve been forced to endure. When we asked why, they came back with pure venom: “The inspiration for this record is the hopelessness we often feel in our survival as the cogs in a vile and inhumane machine of capitalism. Our hatred for all systems that oppress is what unites us and gives us strength that fascists, racists, and all the other cowards in blue will never know.” Powerful words and powerful noise. Their best by far.

NO FUTURE "Mirror" LP (Iron Lung Records)
NO FUTURE steps up to the big size and only format that matters with 20 minutes of raging paranoid drum and bass driven noisy punk tracks in the vein of Sial, Lebenden Toten or Destino Final. “Mirror” is a tightening of ideas and a blast forward in sonic destruction akin to a sinkhole opening up and swallowing rock crushers and earth movers whole… in a word, massive. A fucking deadly thing meting out intense views on “modern life and how easy it is to realise there’s nothing to be done to make things better for any of us. The horrific and broken virtues of the worlds governments and social structures that preach empathy and respect for people but in reality, they crush the human spirit into an easily manipulated paste so they can mould us into a deranged image of what we were. And this process only continues when you realise it, you try to resist and fight back, sometimes you have success, but it is ultimately futile.” Get this now.

EXTORTION "Threats" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
Picking up where 2022’s “Seething” EP left off, “Threats” finds a reinvigorated EXTORTION further distilling their water tight stop/start anti-feedback power violence velocity to “communicate... something. actually, a LOT of something- too much panic, too much frustration, too much nausea, too much of everything.” The new EP is an absolute brain pummel that will leave you more destroyed than ever. Seriously, this band just keeps getting faster and tighter and more ferocious with no limit to what they can do. EXTORTION is a gift… just don’t look ‘em in the mouth.

REEK MINDS "Malignant Existence" LP (Iron Lung Records)
In the tradition of fast as fuck 80’s hardcore that holds all the energy and none of the constraints, comes REEK MINDS with their debut full size. “Malignant Existence” is chock full of blistering speed and punishing sonics pushed to the absolute limit of the physical form. Just like their insane live shows, this will leave you sweating and thirsting and scared. If you ever fantasized about Void covering Negative Approach or Lärm doing Poison Idea, this is essential.
*********
BIG BOYS "Frat Cars" 7" (Color Vinyl) (Fanclub Pressing)
Fanclub pressing of the debut 1980 single from legendary Texans BIG BOYS. The layout is a repro of an earlier fanclub pressing from the 90s!

PISS "Death of the End" 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
Highly obscure, but great and memorable studio recordings from 1985 by this Japanese HC band that plays in the vein of Zouo, Mobs, AT Det, etc.  Lim 200

BARRICADE / GASMASK Split 7" (Fanclub Pressing)
3 incredibly rare studio tracks of Japanese hardcore punk from 1983, in the vein of early Execute, etc. A true mind-blower in the pantheon of great but not accessible / unknown Japanese HC.  These tracks are paired with an equally mind blowing pair of unreleased Gasmask tracks that do not appear on their 7" or the split reissue LP with Coward.) Lim 200.

V/A "East Punks Omnibus" Compilation LP (Fanclub Pressing)
Most mind blowing of all, a four band "Thrash Til Death" style compilation from 1987 showcasing some of the craziest Japanese hardcore that is still completely unknown and unheard due to the original release being a real holy grail / pinnacle of rarity in 80s Japanese hardcore collecting. Bands here include Wild Bonvers, Redrem Voice, Zamza, and Jail God. If you haven't heard of them, don't feel bad, cause really, no one has... The tracks here are raw, but not unlistenable lo-fi quality and will be loved by fans of stuff like Gai, Confuse, the first Gudon flexi, or hyper obscure Japanese hardcore flexi releases like Z, Jigoku Manjyu, Coward or Tranquilizer. Comes with a cool booklet. Lim 200

ZERO BOYS "History Of" (40th Anniversary) LP w/ 7" (Secretly Canadian)
Includes a bonus 7" vinyl with four live tracks recorded in 1980 at Crazy Al's in Indianapolis, IN! From 1979 into '83, the Indianapolis based ZBs were the finest hardcore blitz in the Midwest if not all the lower 48 states. Proof is Vicious Circle and the two decades since of copyists, bootleggers, practitioners and reunion concert pogoers. Though before and after that LP's 1982 release they recorded the Livin' in the 80's 7", songs for three comps and released the post-mortem History Of... cassette revealing their transformation into a toured band warming to the metaphysical and their demise while still waving torches of rock 'n' roll panache. When the Ramones lost it, the Zero Boys found it; Adding a slam brigade fist to the Blitzkrieg Beat. The Zero Boys managed to come with one of the best early 80's punk records, or one of the best records ever, period. Between Vicious Circle and History Of, the entire recorded output of this legendary Midwest punk band's original line up is, finally, collected. -Culminated from liner notes written by Jack Rabid and Eric Weddle.

POISON IDEA "Blank Blackout Vacant (2024 Pressing)" 2xLP  (TKO Records)
When it came to the follow-up of their 1990 magnum opus Feel The Darkness, failure was not an option for POISON IDEA. Seeking a way to expand their musical horizons while still retaining their cranked-up style, UK-cum-Chicagoian producer Iain Burgess  (BIG BLACK, the EFFIGIES, NAKED RAYGUN) was brought in to assist in this audacious feat.  The results –  1992’s Blank Blackout Vacant – successfully showcased a meshing of POISON IDEA's classically surging sound and a new found refinement: demonstrated by the brass section on tracks like the driving opener “Say Goodbye” or the chugging, MOTORHEAD-esque “Forever and Always”. Rolling on with their relentless reissue schedule for Portland’s Kings of Punk, TKO replenishes the double-disc edition of Blank Blackout Vacant first introduced back in the maddening year of 2020. Along with the album’s original batch of thirteen tracks capped off by a thundering version of NEW YORK DOLLS’ “Vietnamese Baby”, you get a bonus LP containing a bevy of B-Sides, covers by acts as disparate as LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH, the WHO and BOOKER T. & the M.G.'s, as well as a live on-air performance on Portland’s long-running community radio station KBOO from the Fall of 1991.Originally released at a pivotal point in POISON IDEA's  career, Blank Blackout Vacant remains an essential component in the understanding of the band's epic trajectory. Grab yourself a copy or pose hard.

XMAL DEUTSCHLAND "Singles" LP (Sacred Bones)
"Gothics” - a time before the word goth had even taken shape - believed in the do-it-yourself punk ethos that anyone could pick up an instrument. Gray clouds were starting to form and in the unlikely city of Hamburg, a brazen and haunting gang of five women formed Xmal Deutschland. As any true punk would, Xmal Deutschland’s members Caro May, Rita Simon, Manuela Rickers, Fiona Sangster and Anja Huwe, started the band despite any previous musical experience. Punk’s independence from the stiff grip of tradition allowed the band to find solace in anti-establishment art and music, far from the conventions of the past. With their peacocked hair and thick kohl-lined eyes, Xmal Deutschland’s music retained both a restlessness and delicacy, transcending any confines of the “Neue Deutsche Welle” movement (much like their colleagues and friends DAF and Einstürzende Neubauten) with the release of the “Incubus Succubus”single in 1982. It instantly became a post-punk classic. The guitar’s buzz ransacks through the melody as the ghoulish primitiveness of Huwe’s voice teases that maybe, just maybe, she is the nightmarish creature of which to be aware. The b-sides, “Zu Jung Zu Alt” and “Blut Ist Liebe,” keep strict militaristic dance beats as they teem in agitation. Early Singles (1981-1982), is a map of the foundational movements of Xmal Deutschland, just seconds before takeoff. Bonus tracks on the compilation, “Kaelbermarsch” and a gritty live version of “Allein,” further accentuate their fusion of toughness with the quixotic decadence of atmospheric synthesizers. The band’s pursuit of something greater is palpable with this release, a reflection of a time that introduced accessibility to new means of making music following the onset of punk.

RADIO BIRDMAN "Radios Appear (Trafalgar Version)" LP (Citadel Records)
Radios Appear' was Radio Birdman's first full length album. Recorded piecemeal between 1976-1977 on nights at weekends in their home studio, Trafalgar, which they named their record label started specifically to release the bands records. In addition to mail order, this record was literally distributed by hand and out of the back of cars. The band wrote the handbook on Australian DIY independent music.
