Here it is, the final Grave Mistake update of 2018! Before we get started, I just want to thank everyone for their support this year and years past. I couldn't do this without all of you checking out these emails, following GM on socials, and most importantly, buying records and supporting all of the rad bands and labels that are currently doing cool things these days. Although this year was yet another quite uneventful year on the new release front for GM, maybe 2019 will see some long overdue activity ...
Anyways, so I don't take up too much of your holiday season time today, here is a quick recap of some year end new releases that have hit the webstore this month ... including brand new wax from NYC's Warthog, DC's Protester, and Japan's Forward; a 3rd collection LP from The Execute, and a 2nd collection LP from one of Seattle's greatest, The Fastbacks. Not to mention, some killer new releases from Tipex, Closet Christ, Mere Mortal, Desgrasia Jubenil, Zodd, Asid, Cold Feet, and more!
Finally, I realized that I forgot to take all of the pins in the webstore off of the Black Friday sale, so we are gonna keep em on sale for the remainder of the year. All sizes, all designs ... check it out for some last minute stocking stuffers / late gifts!!!
That's pretty much it, thanks again for a great year and see you in 2019!
Alex / Grave Mistake Records

New Arrivals in the Webstore for 12/20/18:
WARTHOG "S/T (2018)" 7" (Toxic State Records)
Chris Hansell walks into a bar in Manhattan and orders a scotch on the rocks. He rummages in his pockets and hands over a ten dollar bill. The bartender is looking him up and down out of the corner of his eye as he reaches for a dusty bottle of Cutty and kind of makes a snap judgement that he probably has no clue how much a drink costs in this place. Deciding to take advantage of ol' Han, the bartender returns with a drink and hands him ten cents in change. "Funny seeing you here, we don't get many people who look like they sing for a band that sounds like 50,000 San Men on strike in July, all simultaneously listening to Mellaka, Sacrilege demos, lost takes of Mackie drumming on speed, Massacre 68, and just the faintest whiff of something St. Vitus might have written on their day off, in this joint" Faster than you can get your passport stamped into the tone-zone, Hansell replies "Yeah well at $9.90 for a glass of Cutty, I ain't comin back either!" (Jonah Falco)
EXECUTE, THE "S/T" (Comp Track Collection) LP (Hardcore Temptation Records)
Collection of tracks from this legendary Japanese punk band. Includes tracks from The Execute's compilation appearances: Great Punk Hits, A Farewell To Arms, Anglican Scrape Attic, Hard Core Tempation, Nagasaki Nightrider, & Cleanse The Bacteria! Comes with a double-sided insert, which includes printed interview with Pushead.
FORWARD "Future Troops" LP (540 Records)
Established in 1996 from the ashes of the much revered Death Side, vocalist Ishiya and bassist You formed FORWARD, along with members of Insane Youth and more. Building upon the teachings of UK metal-punk legends Discharge, Forward’s unique “intelligent savage” approach to hardcore was and is decidedly their own, nodding at the work of Poison Idea, Anti-Cimex and others while forging an ironclad path strictly through word of mouth, DIY gigs and underground channels. Future Troops is a taut and explosive collection of tracks that spin yarns of police brutality, calls for peace, rumors of war, injustice, the effects of the Tokyo Olympics and more in a compact and tense 25 minutes of vitriol. You’ve never heard anything as furious as “A.C.A.B.,” you won’t be able to unclench your fist after “Tokyo Orympic,” “Hatered Union” or “Piece of Peace,” and the world won’t soon forget Future Troops. Limited to 500 copies only.
PROTESTER "Watch Them Fall" LP (New Absolute Records)
This is the final statement by Washington, DC straight edge hardcore powerhouse PROTESTER.
MERE MORTAL "Tartaurus" LP (Quality Control HQ)
MERE MORTAL have arrived! With members hailing from various parts of England, their debut MLP Tartarus, harkens back to the raw sound and atmosphere of the often under-rated UK Thrash Metal scene, with many listeners noticing a distinct similarity in vocalist Liam Fox's approach to that of Benediction-era Barney Greenway, as well as Bolt Thrower's beloved Karl Willetts. Permeated with the darkness, intensity and authority of those forbearers, Fox conjures images of apocalyptic death and despair, leading the charge of MERE MORTAL's thrash assault. Behind him bassist Tom Pimlott, drummer Adam Rogers, and Guitarists Maegan Brooks and Joe Sam Williams charge ahead with a sound that remains equally close to the UK - evoking memories of bands like Virus, Sabbat, Hellbastard, and Sacrilege. Like so many of their progenitors, the members of MERE MORTAL began their musical journeys in the punk scene, and that level of urgency and directness is able to inform their approach to Tartarus, with songs kept brief, direct, and precise. MERE MORTAL's Tartarus is a fine tuned and deadly sharp assault on the once again thriving thrash metal scene. CC - Magic Circle
DESGRASIA JUBENIL "Máxico" LP (Cintas Pepe Records)
Desgrasia Jubenil from south México City have been crafting amazing songs in a dirty room since 2014 instead of going to parties and hanging out with pretty punks. If you are not from around, they are pretty much DF's best kept secret. Locally they have been developing a cult following because they are one of the finest bands in the city and they really don't give a fuck about being liked or not.Musically it's hard to describe them, sometimes they sound like spanish TNT or that they have been listening to the Punk Que? Punk comp all their life but you can also listen to the mexican punk influence. They have an unique sound and even if the music is simple and catchy you immediately realize that they take care of each song. Lyrics are about the terrible circumstances of violence in the country but treated some times with a healthy dose of irony and humor other bands haven't been smart enough to use. After all these years they have finally completed their first LP on Cintas Pepe. Desgrasia Jubenil are not in a hurry of getting noticed, they rather drink a caguama, smoke a joint and enjoy a nice afternoon.
TIPEX "S/T" LP (Cintas Pepe Records)
Self released debut LP by Valencia’s TIPEX. Out of nowhere came this full length who sees a fully formed band on a trip across all things that made punk great. Fresh, sharp, hi energy-low fidelity tunes which stick with you for days. There is something extremely convincing about the humble honestly this band dispatches the thirteen songs on their debut. You can hear rage, despair, boredom and sarcasm played with a fierce solidity and furious conviction. The true sound of decades of punk and hitting your head against a wall on repeat combined. And if the tunes and attitude weren’t enough you have artwork by Teodoro Hernández to round things up.
ZODD "Operationally Ready Dead" LP (La Vida Es Un Mus Discos)
Every genre splinters and flowers out from it's original starting point and hardcore is no exception, mutating fractally out from its supercharged punk roots, twisting through trends, evolutions and regressions, crashing back in on itself until you end up with an international sprawl of scenes and subscenes, styles within styles, odd misshapen fusions and hellbent worship bands. If you were looking for a sound that could encapsulate the myriad forms that hardcore takes in 2018 one could do a lot worse than slam a record on by ZODD, who have emerged from the vibrant Singapore punk/hardcore scene in the wake of bands like Vaarallinen, Sial and Lubricant. Operationally Ready Dead have an approach based in a vicious pogo-thump but drawing in elements of hardcore's various strands, echoing screams ripping painfully through chomping riffs, weird enough for the freakpunx, hard enough for the mosh kids, chaotic and blown out, squealing and stumbling, but never losing it's dynamism, ten tracks of contemporary anxiety shaped into hardcore anger, apocalyptic angst, psychopaths with uniforms and without, society's born corrupt, getting darker still. ZODD provide a searing soundtrack to this and more. DYSTOPIAN FUTURE IS NOW. Operationally Ready Dead front cover was designed by Nicky Rat and it comes with a lyric insert designed by the band.
ASID "Asid Tracks II" Tape (La Vida Es Un Mus Discos)
Another four tracks of ripping grotty hardcore from Asid, nothing in excess, pared down to the bone, no over-the-top flailing solos, no herky-jerky weirdness, and none of the woozy post-punk stylings found in the members' other band Chain of Flowers, just the pure guttural release of searing hardcore riffs crashing into one other, smashing forward with anger and power.
FASTBACKS "If You Want to Slow Down, Step on the Gas" LP (No Threes Records)
This LP collects fourteen Fastbacks recordings from the latter half of the eighties, which have not appeared on LP previously. Containing tracks from various 7” singles, cassette releases and compilation tracks, here’s a great way to give them all a spin on our favored format. Includes 4-page 12x12 booklet with photos and detailed misinformation, and sonically refurbished to please the staunchest superfan!
COLD FEET "S/T" 7" (Cold Feet Records)
Vinyl debut from Baltimore's COLD FEET following a couple real promising tapes. Here we get four tracks of simple, trashy, and wildly effective hardcore punk. It's like Bad Posture stumbling down The Avenue, cranking out some trebly damage with abrasive vocals and snappy pUnKer riffs, or a Free Cocaine era Dwarves competing with 9 Shocks Terror for violent, comedic damage. Very simple, yet meaningful crunch from these promising goofballs. Self released with screenprinted sleeves and risographed lyric sheet.
CLOSET CHRIST "You're in My World Now" 7" (Lumpy Records)
Dirty Feral HC from DC informed by chaotic 80s HC greats like Void, Neos, and Sodom’s ADK omnibus tracks (!!!!!!!) . An amazing six songs in Five minutes, all played by one chapped millennial (who went on to do the Hologram ep on LVEUM if you’re a members of type of wank). Definitely barking up the same tree as Nosferatu – young men trapped in the 21st century playing crazy hardcore that could as well be from the 80s.
EKE BUBA "S/T" 7" (Lumpy Records)
It’s a goer. Snarling speed fed hardcore from Zagreb, Croatia tapped into Gang Greens early raw energy – on and off recording (sniff sniff). An exercise in timeless pure punk to smash and to sneer and to hate and to die to. Cherish alongside your School Jerks and Culo eps. LR certified gasm.
ROHT "Iðnsamfélagið Og Framtíð Þess" LP (Iron Lung Records)
Iðnsamfélagið Og Framtíð Þess which roughly translates to "Industry and its Future", is taking the oddity and isolationism of hardcore punk and industrial noise and smashing them even further together than they did on previous releases. This is the sound of a band perfecting its approach to the world. And we can't get enough. At first listen it is what seems to be a simple formula of bass, noise, drums and vocals but as you continue to listen, delicate layers of depression, life, anger, creativity, emergence and deconstruction begin to unfold until you find yourself trapped in a dystopian clamor void of hellish nothingness. Industry and its future indeed. Housed in a 24pt reverse board jacket with printed inner sleeve and download card included.
LEXICON "5 Tracks Demo" Tape (Iron Lung Records)
Nearly inhuman levels of rage and power from Seattle's newest noise punk outfit featuring Madam KJ on (first time ever!) vocal shredding duty. Ferocious styles to say the least. LEXICON stalks like a newly liberated beast and pummels your senses to dust. Proper shit. 100 pro-dubbed cassettes housed in a custom J-card with extra insert. Recorded by Jose Mora. Mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth. Art by Devin McKernan.
100 SWINDLE "For Survival Punx" 7" (General Speech Records)
Fantastic debut EP from this band of 80's and 90's Japanese hardcore scene veterans. 100 Swindle has succeeded where even many modern Japanese bands have fallen short in recent years at reviving the meaningful, and impactful 90's Japanese hardcore style. A sound that has become well revered, loved by many, and if you are a fan as well, you will no doubt enjoy the familiar structure and epic leads of a classic hardcore style that 100 Swindle is making sure is not forgotten in Japan. 330 copies pressed.
