STRAIGHTJACKET NATION "S/T" 12" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
Forming in 2004, Straightjacket Nation (featuring members of other important Australian bands such as Pisschrist, Total Control and The UV Race) have long been considered by many to be among the best that modern hardcore has to offer. Whether rearing their ugliness live or remaining underground and birthing releases sporadically, Straightjacket Nation absolutely DESTROY - undeniably deserving the cult following they've earned over the years, and the cult is alive. 2017 sees the release of the second Straightjacket Nation LP. Intimidating and foul, ridden with feedback, lurching and slamming, screeching and boiling over. There's no hint of youthfulness here, instead lurks a fearful incarnation of hardcore punk at it's darkest and most foul. One moment disciplined, the next a sprawling chaos. Straightjacket Nation stands alone, a horrible entity carved out in stone. Mean. Strict. Remorseless. Vengeful. Harsh. SJN. File between GAUZE 面を洗って出直して来い , POISON IDEA Pick Your King era and LIP CREAM great hits. Released between Cool Death in Australia and LVEUM in the Rest of the World. Straightjacket Nation S/T LP comes in a really black front embossed sleeve.
PRIMAL RITE "Sensory Link To Pain" 7" (Revelation Records)

Lyrically, Primal Rite doesn't settle for typical hardcore, stabbed-in-the-back cliches or meaningless metal morbidity, instead tackling important personal politics. Vocalist Lucy expounds on the subjects of mental illness, self-doubt, betrayal and perseverance with uncommon grace.
MILK MUSIC "Mystic 100's" LP (Dom America)
From a cocoon of ambitious distortion , the caterpillar once known and loved as Olympia's Milk Music , reemerges as a butterfly in full psychedelic Technicolor as Mystic 100's. BOSTON STRANGLER "Outcast" 12" (Fun With Smack Records)

Widely considered a "modern classic" since day one, this is Boston Hardcore in it's purest, most perfectly executed form. It belongs in a museum. Mastered for vinyl by Carl Saff and dumped onto a one-sided 45 RPM 12", the outcast demo has never sounded this good.

CAREER SUICIDE "Machine Response" LP (Deranged Records)

Machine Response veers in and out of pure speed, bursts of melody, and chunky tempo shifts, indenting the long standing influence of early 80s USHC, late 70s punk, and a peppering of 60s swagger, with their own clearly developed style. Dallas Good (Sadies, Andre Williams, John Doe, Half Japanese, Elevator and a million more) presents a magnificently essential 2nd guitar and lead presence; a screaming guitar contribution by great friend and long time supporter of the band, Souichi Hisatake, (Forward, GISM, Insane Youth, Gudon etc) to crack your brain up; artwork in collaboration with Ryan Tong of S.H.I.T. and Toronto's life-giving Faith/Void; and a thundering recording, once again helmed by the decorated and limitless in his pursuit of smooth hearing loss, Jon Drew, provide the most damaging clarity Career Suicide have been able to capture to date.
UV-TV "Glass" LP (Deranged Records)
Stuck somewhere in the middle of Florida is UV-TV. Rose Vastola, Ryan Hopewell and Ian Bernacett write melancholy pop songs with jagged, abrasive edges. Combining strong hooks with chainsaw guitars and bliss-ey treble--comparisons to Black Tambourine, JAMC and The Shop Assistants fit best. Shoegaze stripped of its fat and its fluff. After a well-received demo (High Fashion Industries) and 7” split with LA’s Shark Toys (Emotional Response) in 2015, “Glass” is the band’s first long-play record (available from Deranged). The 11 burning cuts were self-recorded over two days in a retired Gainesville train station with a couple borrowed microphones and a Tascam 388. This is UV-TV. You should listen loud.

You’ll be flipping this 7” until your needle breaks.
PROTESTER "The First Two Years" LP (Refuse Records)
Washington DC is not only one of the places where USHC started , but also a place where over the next 35 years there were outstanding bands that kept the high reputation of the local scene. Protester appeared out of this vibrant local scene, firstly as a one-man project, which quickly turned into a real band and immediately become one of the best and hard hitting bands we could hear. These guys know their history and brought elements of early Boston, NYC, DCHC and late'80's Clevo or Seattle to their sound (think Confront , Brotherhood , SSD or early Agnostic Front) but they were smart enough to avoid the "retro" tag and smart enough again to make it sounding like it's now but being far from polished, overproduced and pleasant sounding. This release documents the first period of the band and it's coming out to support their European tour with Red Death (May/June 2016). It contain 15 songs (incl. Last Rights and Agnostic Front covers) that originally were released on demo tape, first 7", limited promo tape and "The Red Line" tape comp so everything right before their "No identity" 7" on Triple B records.
ACRYLICS "Despair" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
Taking the modern stomp stamp of weird hardcore to a new generation of outsiders, Santa Rosa's Acrylics rule the outer spheres. Gutsy angular guitar "melodies" intertwined with pummeling drums, urgent bass and a half violent, half snide singer that packs a wallop. Music for wilding. Seeing is believing but enjoy this vinyl debut until you can. Rumor is there's an LP for ILR in the works too. Art by J.Party. Recorded by Jack Shirley. This is part of the ILR single series 3 so there are only 300 made ever. All hand stamped and hand numbered. That is all. Good day.
DREAMDECAY "Yù" LP (Iron Lung Records)
Notes on the theme of YÚ: Combining the English you and Spanish tú, YÚ symbolizes the experience of being stuck between two cultures, struggling to find a sense of legitimacy. It navigates this space and the tension of being pulled in opposite directions – the binary of life: past/future, optimism/pessimism, acceptance/denial, confusion/clarity. YÚ orbits two realities seeking a new point of view. -Dreamdecay Seattle's finest band had us waiting a long time for this dirge pop masterpiece. We won't go into too much flower with the description, just know that this is honest music from the heart. A perfectly crafted trip. And seriously, "IAN" might be the best song of the decade. Damn. Housed in a dual finish full color heavy duty gatefold jacket. Art by J. Gallego.
DAUÐYFLIN "Drepa Drepa" 7" (Iron Lung Records)
A dirty, energetic feminist hardcore blastwave of tastefully reverbed pogo infused ferocity from Reykjavík. This is the kind of punk that makes us all rigid and fevered up. It is at once the new sound and the classic feel of pure rage. We love this. Consider this the prelude to an LP to be released on Iron Lung Records in 2017. (psst, it's at the plant now and it fucking kills).

POISON IDEA "War All the Time" LP (TKO Records)
The lost classic returns!! Available for the first time on LP in over 20 years, TKO is bringing you POISON IDEA's seminal second LP from 1987 - "War All The Time." Long a favorite of diehard PI fans, "War.." was a pivotal moment in POISON IDEA's evolution. With the addition of a second guitarist, and the debut of legendary powerhouse drummer Steve "THEE Slayer Hippie" Hanford, this album established the direction POISON IDEA would follow into the second decade of their career. This one has been a long time coming folks, and with the full deluxe "Kings Of Punk" series reissue treatment, this version will prove to be well worth the wait. Stay tuned, more volumes in the KOP series are due to follow in 2017!!
CENTURY PALM "Meet You" LP (Deranged Records)
Century Palm are Paul Lawton (Ketamines), Andrew Payne (Zebrassieres), Penny Clark (Tough Age) and Jesse Locke (Dirty Beaches). Their debut album, Meet You, was recorded by the band in Toronto, mixed in Vancouver by Jay Arner and mastered in Australia by Mikey Young. Meet You is 10 songs about getting to know another layer of yourself – even when you think you know yourself. About subtle tones of despair. About the things you aren't encouraged to express on an everyday basis. Musically, Century Palm crib shamelessly from Wire, Neu!, and Eno-era Roxy Music, modern Australian bands like Total Control, and failed experiments from earlier, abandoned projects. Many instances of droning synths ruining perfectly nice pop songs. Includes album download code.
HEAT "S/T" 7" (Deranged Records)
Heat's debut 7" is a hellish, whirlwind onslaught of ultracore agony. It would be easy to just name check the cult HC groups of yore who make up Heat's primary influences--Neanderthal, Citizens Arrest, Impact Unit, Crossed Out, etc.--but these San Diego insurgents aren't content simply paying homage; they're taking their savage influences and pushing the aural torment into a refreshing, self stylized direction. Whether full tilt blasting, stomping at a mid-pace, or trudging through a dirge, there's a natural fluidity and cohesion to Heat's under-a-minute nuclear reactions that belies the group's intensity. Simply put, any fan of extreme hardcore will revel in Heat's burly, mutant approach. Buy it, steal it, hype it, but above all: feel it. - Colin Tappe

10 tracks of stoned out, garage-y ruminations from this Murray, KY outfit that pulls from as much from the contemporary Hozac contingent as it does from 70s rock legends ELO. Recorded way back in 2014 and intended for an LP, Not Normal Tapes has rescued it from assured obscurity and released it on a nice little tapie for all you Walkman-heads out there.
WILD ROSE Demo Tape (Demo)
Demo cassette from this hard rockin' punk band from Charlottesville, VA. Featuring members of Fried Egg.
TROUBLE, THE "Shadows on the Street" LP (Six Feet Under Records)
THE TROUBLE hailed from Boston's massive streetpunk scene of the late 90's. Unlike most of the other bands from the time, their sound has held up over the years, blending the perfect mix of punk rock and hardcore together. Members later went on to form Panic and The Explosion, and they have reformed a few times in recent years for the occasional reunion show. This new LP compiles all their previously out of print material onto one record. Basically everything that isn't on the NOBODY LAUGHS ANYMORE album.
FLOORPUNCH "Fast Times" LP (Six Feet Under Records)
Back in print again for the first time since the late 1990s. The first and only full length from Floorpunch. A masterpiece from start to finish.
FLOORPUNCH "Twin Killing" LP (Six Feet Under Records)
Out of print since the late 90's, Twin Killing is the first 12" from New Jersey's FLOORPUNCH. It contains their now classic GOAL LINE STAND demo and the DIVISION ONE CHAMPS.
BRACEWAR "Discography" LP (Six Feet Under Records)
This one took a while. Originally pressed for United Blood 2015 as a limited edition of 100, the Bracewar discography 12" is finally getting a full release. This contains everything the band has recorded, 30 tracks on one 12". Some of them have been remixed, everything has been remastered.
MANIKINS "From Broadway to Blazes" 2xLP (Manufactured Recordings)
From the same scene that begat the Scientists and the Victims came Perth, Australia's The Manikins. Founded by Neil Fernandes -- a former member of the legendary Cheap Nasties with future Scientists member Kim Salmon -- the Manikins bridged the rawness of their Aussie punk contemporaries with melodic Power Pop. From Broadway to Blazes features all the bands' essential recordings from 1971 to 1981, including the three criminally rare and outrageously expensive self-released 7" singles (Models for Mankind, Premonition and Love at Second Sight), their DiY cassette and more unreleased studio recordings as well as detailed liner notes by Fernandes. Manufactured Recordings presents one of the final, untold stories of the original Australian Punk and New Wave scene.
LIFE STINKS "Hanging From The Ceiling" 7" (Total Punk Records)
San Francisco's Life Stinks are back with their third single on Total Punk, and as the title implies their sunny disposition is still in tact. Life Stinks delivers two more tracks of their lurching misanthropic punk with Chud channeling his inner Dez on the B side. Recorded in New Orleans, just a few days after playing the final Total Punk Total Fuck Off, with Total Punk alumni Gary Wrong at the helm, turning knobs and lending guitar on the A side, this one is truly 100% TOTAL PUNK!
NAG "False Anxiety" 7" (Total Punk Records)
Atlanta is quickly becoming the southern capital of punk and one of it's busiest ambassadors would be Brannon Greene (Predator, GHB, Acid Freaks, Frantic, Beat Beat Beat... the list goes on). Nag (pronounced Nog) is his newest project and expounds even further on the anxious energy of his previous outlet Predator. Choppy/ angular guitars complemented by a truly killer rhythm section. Dark punk at it's finest. 'False Anxiety' is the follow up to their killer 7 song demo from last year and is one of the most interesting original punk singles I've heard in some time. A band not to be missed live and look out for a full length on Total Punk later this year. 100% TOTAL PUNK!
HAPPY DIVING "Electric Soul Unity" LP (Topshelf Records)
Electric Soul Unity, Happy Diving’s fourth record in less than three years, showcases the band taking their dynamic rock to new heights. Their characteristic thick fuzz is coupled with tender melodies, a yin-yang of scorching in-your-face rippers and contagious hook-laden sing-alongs. The aggressive driving force of lead single “Holy Ground” meets its match with the slow-burning ballad, “Head Spell,” proving the band is just as comfortable in their quieter moments as they are being loud as hell.
CAUSTIC DEFIANCE "Demo 83" 7" (Even Worse Records)
Caustic Defiance was a hardcore punk band from Peoria, IL from 1983 to 1985. It was formed by Barry Steppe and Chopper Steppe after they moved to Peoria, causing the end of Negative Element. The sound is a fast and furious hardcore. They recorded a demo in 1983, as well as some tracks on a Kaaos Zine compilation.
WALL BREAKER Demo Tape (Demo)
Wall Breaker is a new straight edge hardcore punk band with members from NJ and VA. Heavily influenced by bands like SSD and Life's Blood, but played with the speed of some of the early 00's era thrash bands.
MUJERES PODRIDAS Demo Tape (Todo Destruido)
Debut 4 track of raw, yet catchy Punk from Austin, TX. This meets somewhere between 80's Spanish punk like Descheables or Ultimo Resorte, but mixed with the sound we have come to expect from Austin. Members of Kurraka, Deskonocidos, etc... Limited to 100 copies/Pro tapes.
